In order to adapt to the rapidly developing and changing world conditions, process-based management seems inevitable. EFQM, Deming and Baldrige Excellence Models, ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems Requirements, and digital transformation all necessitate management through processes.

In this context, process management should be integrated into curricula, starting with high school education. University graduates, in particular, should enter the workforce with a solid understanding of the subject.

The author has compiled in this book the knowledge and experience gained from quality management in medical laboratories, where he worked primarily from 1985 onwards, and from his roles as University Bologna Coordinator and Head of the Coordination Commission, University Quality Coordinator, and Director of the Quality Center since 2007.

This book explains fundamental and useful information about process management. It is also designed as a handbook for anyone wishing to establish a business process management system in their organization. As seen in the table of contents, the establishment of a business process management system is explained step-by-step, and the following sections provide information to be used during its implementation. The chapters are structured to be useful for anyone implementing process management.

Business process management systems are explained in stages, with each stage focusing on process management alongside quality management, risk management, change management, and project management.

This book has been prepared to fill a gap in our country. The lack of knowledge about process management among university graduates is a major challenge for organizations. All organizations, including non-governmental organizations, will be able to benefit from it.

“This book serves as a reference for the books ”Risk, Quality, and Process-Based Management Model in Higher Education Institutions“ and ”Risk, Quality, and Process-Based Management Model in Medical Laboratories.” It is presented as a two-book series. This first book is designed for all organizations. Each organization can read the other books and adapt them to their own needs.

The initial chapters explain process definition and structuring according to the business process life cycle. This provides a reference for the process applications used in establishing the management systems covered in the book.

The basic principles of project management are also explained. The main aim is to contribute to changing the approach in Türkiye that projects should only be prepared to receive grants.

The Basic Knowledge section now includes the expected knowledge, skills, and competencies related to the expertise necessary for success in management. This aims to highlight the need for collaboration between educational institutions and the business world to determine how specific professions or specializations should be acquired and to rapidly structure certification programs (e.g., preparations for micro-skills).

This book is intended to serve as a guide in the education, business, and research sectors. It can be used as a handbook. Its aim is to help prepare a knowledge-based society for effective and efficient governance.
