Since approximately 2011, there has been a rapid effort to learn about FHIR worldwide, particularly in the US and the EU. An extraordinary effort is observed. Our research showed that the concept of FHIR is not yet fully understood in T\u00fcrkiye. For this reason, we conducted interviews with the actors in the ecosystem. These interviews can be accessed through the links at the end of the text.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">These three interviews convey the following main messages:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">FHIR is no longer a \u201ctechnical option\u201d; it is the de facto global standard for digital health.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Digitalization is strong in the daily delivery of healthcare services in T\u00fcrkiye; however, the necessary data governance and interoperability for secondary uses (research, quality control, artificial intelligence, policy) are lacking.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">The problem is not technology; it&#039;s the lack of governance, terminology harmonization, a national strategy, and a continuous learning ecosystem.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">FHIR alone is not sufficient:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Implementation Guides<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Compatibility with international coding systems (LOINC, SNOMED CT, ICD, RxNorm, etc.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">The concept of Electronic Health Record (EHR) needs to be defined correctly.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">The European Union and the US are examples for FHIR:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">in clinical care,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">in the study,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">in artificial intelligence and decision support systems<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">It clearly shows how it was made mandatory.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">A proposal for T\u00fcrkiye:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u201cInstead of &quot;wholesale transformation&quot;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Pilot areas + controlled FHIR crossings<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">learning-teaching centers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">multi-stakeholder (public-academia-industry) collaboration.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">If you are conducting research in healthcare, interested in machine learning and artificial intelligence, and want to access information about your patients and related diseases in bulk, you should learn how to prepare health data according to the FHIR standard for high-quality and secure information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">These interviews will give you a holistic perspective, enabling you to confidently chart your course in digital health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Kind regards\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Prof. Dr. Diler Aslan<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">ORCID ID: <a href=\"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-4907-9445\">0000-0003-4907-9445<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">February 3, 2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Access addresses for interview videos:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Learning About Digital Health is Essential: But How? | PART 1: Digital Health Components, Ecosystem Stakeholders and FHIR (Aslan D, Ak\u00e7ap\u0131nar Sezer E, Turhan K.)<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lvhfBsZGp7Q&amp;t=5s\">(https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lvhfBsZGp7Q&amp;t=5s)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Learning Digital Health is Essential: But How? | PART 2: Why are FHIR-Based Software Necessary?
